Offering a new perspective

Shelby and I began our sessions while I was in my last semester of graduate school. I wanted help figuring out how to have a more active and healthy lifestyle while managing my stress and anxiety. Since then, there have been many changes in my life, and Shelby has been supportive and helpful the entire way. She asks me questions about my goals and makes me think about them in a way I never have before. I normally have multiple realizations in our sessions about why or how I feel a certain way about something. Shelby offers insights and suggestions that are always spot on and has truly helped me become a more self-aware and introspective person.

A New Journey

I did not know what to expect from health coaching when I started, but Shelby was wonderful at letting me know what to expect. We made goals on how to create health for me and what this might look like. It was so helpful to make small changes and see big results from physical to mental. She was there in ups and downs and was able to get me to motivate myself. I am so glad I decided to go on this journey with her.

Identifying small steps

Shelby and I started working together when I finished grad school, and a few months in to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Her guidance and patience have been very helpful as I navigate multiple life transitions and the stress of isolation in a pandemic, all while working to build the foundation for a healthier lifestyle. She has helped me to break big goals into bite-sized pieces and taught me that giving myself flexibility – and rewarding progress- is imperative. I look forward to using the tools from our sessions to continue building healthier habits, one small step at a time.

Finding a new way

Shelby is part of my healing team that has helped me after a near fatal stroke 3.5 years ago. She listens and offers resources that support me with the stroke. She’s knowledgeable, compassionate and genuinely cares about a holistic approach to getting my life back.

Shining a Light

Shelby helped me shine a light on areas of my life, I didn’t realize were in the shadows. Through supportive, thought-provoking questions, Shelby led me to my own awareness on where I wanted my life to improve and helped me manage getting there through achievable, broken down goals. If something I wanted to try, didn’t work out the first time, Shelby was there to guide me in the direction that would. I realize now how powerful accountability is and how helpful it can be to have someone who is a gentle, yet powerful, support system. Thank you, for the guidance and mindset shift that has helped me achieve my goals, lessen my anxiety, find answers to my autoimmune issues, and so much more.

Normalize saying NO

Normalize saying NO. “Love yourself enough to set boundaries. Your time and energy are precious. You get to choose how you use it. You teach people how to treat you by deciding what you will and won’t accept.”― Anna Taylor In a society where it is often expected to say yes without feeling like we are letting someone down or it is what we are required to do, saying NO is often seen as radical. Everywhere in life, society seems to keep speeding up. We are busier than we Continue Reading

Be willing to step into the unknown

“People have a hard time letting go of their suffering. Out of a fear of the unknown, they prefer suffering that is familiar.”― Thich Nhat Hanh OOMPH. I always appreciate the wisdom of Thich Nhat Hanh, but those words hit hard. However, there is a lot of truth in them. Change is hard. It does not matter what the change is, it can be a long road. But what is on the other side of that change? What would you gain instead that would make life so much more rewarding and exciting? If you Continue Reading

Start thinking MICRO

Start thinking micro. It is great to start with a big picture of what your vision and goals are for yourself. But what about the small steps that it takes to get there? Sometimes it can become overwhelming when we think of ALL of the things we need to do in order to work towards our end result. And if it becomes TOO overwhelming, we trigger our sympathetic nervous system which tells us to shut down and stop. I know I can often find myself in the trap of wanting to do ALL the things at Continue Reading

Building SPACE in our lives

SPACE. How can we add more of it in our life? Space can mean a lot of different things to each person, but for me it means creating a way to slow down and pause. I am not naturally a go with the flow type of person. It is something that I have to intentionally work at every single day. I often want to fill my calendar with another training, class, trip or even a new book. But what happens when we are constantly on the go with no time to pause? When we sit with space, we create a container for Continue Reading
